Former North East Somerset MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has said he would “love to stand as MP again, in principle”.

The Conservative politician lost his seat in the 2024 General Election against Labour’s Dan Norris in the newly created seat of North East Somerset and Hanham.

Since the election, he has maintained a high public profile, with regular appearances on GB News, and starring in his own reality TV show.

“There’s no immediate plans for a second series,” he told BBC Radio Bristol’s John Darvall.

Mr Rees-Mogg also ruled out an appearance on I’m A Celebrity: “Can you imagine me half undressed wading through mud?

“The most undressed I am was when I took my blazer off to play cricket, so it wasn’t as racy as other reality TV.”

He also admitted he did not enjoy watching things back that he had said.

“Fortunately there were lots of members of my family in it so it was much nicer watching them than it was me,” he said.

Mr Rees-Mogg said he hoped by the next general election voters will want to replace Labour.

“Then a combination of some kind between the Tories and Reform will bring those votes together,” he added.

Mr Rees-Mogg believes he lost his seat this year because the Conservatives are “very unpopular” rather than it being based on his performance as an MP.
